Methodology

How the Answer Index is measured

What we measure

For each business in a category, we ask the same set of real questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, and Google AI Overviews - the same six platforms across every ranking, so results are genuinely comparable. A business's visibility percentage is the share of those runs where it was actually cited, not estimated from any other signal.

Sample size and reliability

An entry with fewer than 5 completed runs is marked "preliminary" - small samples can shift significantly on a single additional run, and we say so rather than present an early number with false confidence.

What "not yet measured" means

A category with no entries, or an entry with no visibility percentage, means exactly that - no completed measurement run exists yet. We do not fill empty categories with placeholder numbers to make the index look more complete than it is.

Example entries

Where you see an entry marked "(example)," it is illustrative only - shown to demonstrate what a completed ranking looks like, not a real measurement of that business. Every example entry is labeled as such, directly in the table, not in fine print.
